Love is blind, we see this when Cecilia doesn't want to forgive her family for sending Robbie to jail. This causes Cecilia to cut her family out of her life. Do you think it was a wise decision for Cecilia to leave her family?
No, i mean families are always full of nonsense but you put up with it and tell them how you feel. this puts Robbie in quite an awkward position because being so far away from Cecelia he wants her to be connected to her family and doesnt want their relationship to cause this seperation. Cecelia wants to forgive her family but in a way convinces herself she doesnt.
I think it was an act of anger towards the incident. But Robbie didn't want her to leave her family and he time and time again asked to write a letter to them at least, but Cecilia is a reble. Although things are coming together slowly it is clear that Cecilia wants to make her family feel the pain but in the process I think she is hurting her self.
i agree Janco she is hurting herself and I mean look at when she finally speaks to Briony she's so excited and shows so much love to her sister you'd never think they weren't talking. She tries to persuade Robbie that perhaps this is a reason to forgive her...Cecelia stayed home all those years because she needs to be needed and needs company...it also displays some growth that shes out on her own, even if it is in such a bad way. I don't know I'm interested to know what exactly this tells us about Cecilia's character.
People smoke mistakes we must find it in our hearts to forgive. Even though her family was wrong Cecilia shouldn't have shut them out of her life because family is important. And robbie cannot be blamed for Cecilia's decision because she wanted her to fix things with her family cause think about it what if he died in the war Cecilia would be left with no one because she has shut everyone out. So Cecilia must forgive her family and move on she cannot dwell on the past for the rest of her life
Putting myself in cecilias shoes I would of clouted the living day lights out of my sister because she has ruined someones life by not first getting the real juices 2 the story,I honestly can see why she doesn't want anything 2 do with them because after all they didn't take her world 4 it only by what they heard and their look on the letter not knowing her feelings and the truth they ruined robbies life and not giving the real rapist the correct justice making him get away
But itsunrealistic to shut your family out forever and be devoted to aperson so far away, their letters themselves are unrealistic.i thinklike mam saidtheyve shut themselves into this litle fantasy world and the only real things around them are the war and the nursing. Cecelias decision is away of protecting this fantasy world in my opinion even though she may not realise it...
kelse I like what you have said,if we all had to put ourselves in Cecilias shoes we would probably do what she has done blinded by love and with the interruption of all that was becoming so heated between Robbie and herself.and on the other hand it was a bad idea to leave her family...but if she hadn't left the house, would Robbie see how much she loved her?would Briony be able to be 'independent'?
